A good performance don’t mean fast, skillful fingering. I had the pianist’s passion, my spirit and “faith, hope and charity”. But not enough for a concertpianist. Actually, I wasn’t.

My first playing the piano was Beethoven’s moon-light sonata(1st mov.) at the age of three, only listening my father played it.
My music talent by nature very angered my father, for he had intended me to become a doctor, not a pianist.
My father taught me English, maths, and all school-works except music before I was schoolchild. He always said, “All arts are nonsense. You must be a great doctor.”
But I had continued to practice the piano without being noticed by my parents.
I played the piano every place, it sounded as if I gravitated toward music.
In 1989, at the age of sixteen, I won the First Prize in the National Piano competition
and a famous concertpianist described me as
“A boy of genius for the several decades”.
I performed Chopin’s Impromptu at the opening concert of
a new music hall named “Atorion” as a special guest.
I became too famous as a young gifted pianist to hide it from my father. After he saw me in the newspaper, evry phone-call and letter for me belong to my father. He rejected all my concerts and interviews with rage. I was deprived of music, Goethe’s books,
the Bible, even my soul.
My father was extremely dominant and radical, resorted to violence.
I had no choice to accept my father’s will, and gave up my dream
becoming a concertpianist.
In 1994, at the age of twenty, I entered the medical department of Akita University, and for the next four years devoted myself to studying both medicine and music.
In 1996 I performed J. S.Bach’s Piano Concerto No.1 BWV 1052 with University Orchestra.
In October 1998, at the age of twenty-four, I was away from the Medical School and started music study with Prof. Joo Ann Koh at Prayner Konservatorium in Vienna at length.
This Etude op.10-11 and another Etude op.10-12, Nocturne op.48-1, Ballade op.52, and Scherzo op.20 were recorded for an application to take part in the Fourteenth International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition (2000).
That was my long dream to perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto op.11 at Warsaw, but I had only one year to prepare for an application.
I was not allowed to take part in the Chopin Competition.
Since I noticed I was far from mature and sophisticated, I faced music for the next one year for my life.
In May 2001 I was awarded “DIPLOMA D’ONORE” at the 11th A.M.A. CALABRIA International Piano Competition in Itary at last.
I came back to the medical department of Akita University, Japan, in September of the same year. And I lost music again.
In March 2004 I was conferred the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine.
I realized music was part of my life, music was with me in the beginning, when I was
under half-dead after surgery, four years ago.
At the same summer, I changed my name; “Mayumi” to “Masao”.
Nocturne No.13 in C minor op.48-1 which I performed, would tell you better than my word.
My present name “Masao” means ” true Life”;
” echtes Leben” in German.
I must live my life just as my name.
